Bulb
Edit: if bulb is fine then check the electrical tracks around the window and connections at the bottom of the window. |

If it's not the bulb then usually the track on the glass. Easily (and cheaply) remedied by running a wire up there, if you use a black wire and tuck it into the window rubber all will be tip top .

Gone for a new bulb. We don't think it's gone and all of the contacts look to be absolutely fine.
I'm wondering if something hasn't been connected up when the new rear lights were fitted? |

The rear lights just have one connector each and are straight forward to swap so if they all work it shouldn't realy be that

Does the 3rd brake light not feed off them then?

Yes but if the lights were just swapped for led's there's no need to disconnect anything other than the plug on the back of the lights themselves.

Ok well we can rule out it being the bulb that's blown, so will have to look again at the connectors tomorrow.

Some of the screens have a piece of track missing to the high level brake light (so it has never worked). Dad's 110 was like this, repaired by bridging the gap with a new wire. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

LOL.
I'll take a photo in the morning so you can all take a look and see if you can spot anything obvious. I do love this forum, it's such a great resource. |

A fairly common problem with earlier Pumas was that the light housing rubbed through the electrical tracking, an improved rear screen with different tracking was eventually introduced. Steve.

You can bridge the gap with some tin foil or you can run wires from the lower connectors inside the window rubber to the connections on the bulb holder. I have done both. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

There was a hairline crack in the track near the hi-level brake light on mine. Took me a while to find. I was getting 12v up to the brake light, but it appears very little current. I soldered a wire across the cracked tracked and it has worked perfectly ever since.
I recently fitted a LED hi-level and body lights, so much better!! 2009 Defender 90 CSW 2.4 TDCI. Ex Army Mechanic still living the dream. |
