I’ve not had a problem, 2002 TD5.
The odometer reading is via the ECU so that won’t ‘go missing’. |

Disconnect the battery first. If you have battery backup alarm, switch ignition on then off and disconnect battery within 15seconds.

No issue with disconnecting the cluster.
Odometer is stored in non-volatile memory in the cluster (not the ECU as stated above). 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

It is possible to replace the entire wiper system without disconnecting the IPAC or removing the dash panel if you remove all the fasteners and simply ease the dash panel away from the bulkhead. removing the dash is however not difficult (although quiet time-consuming) and makes the job more comfortable, though be advised you will inevitably find rust behind it, as well as other jobs you'll want to do at the same time.
If you're in a rush, don't remove the dash. If you have plenty of time and want to do the best job, remove the dash. Martin, for some reason I thought that the mileage was stored both in the IPAC and the ECM, to make it more difficult to "clock" a vehicle by swapping the IPAC. Am I imagining this? Thanks. |

Having to do this job in stages but have stripped everything to the point the dash is resting on just with the instrument cluster plugged in. Have noticed the red alarm light no longer comes on/flashes when I arm the alarm but the hazards flash three times still and the engine still starts okay so not sure what has caused that!?

It could be that the connector isn’t pushed home properly. Try unplugging it and plugging it in again.

It was a fuse. The same fuse does the clock, interior light and alarm light it appears!
