18" wheels on a P400
So I'm still looking for the right car and have found a P400 which seems to tick most of the boxes. The build sheet says DISC BRAKE SIZE FRT 19/RR 19. My understanding is that means:
front brake discs diameter 363mm, rear diameter 350mm

As I do a fair bit of off-roading, I want 18" wheels. Except that it appears you can't fit an 18" rim to a P400 because it has the larger calipers. Is that right?

The solution to this seems to be either

1. shave down the caliper as shown here : https://landroverforums.com/forum/2020-def...ro-109068/

2. Fit a smaller caliper using a kit like this https://lucky8llc.com/products/rear-caliper-conversion-kit

ARE THESE BOTH SAFE? Are they just crazy Yanks?

I would go for shaving them down. Rear maximum, Front, see what is or could be needed for mud/stones clearance.
Also use spacers to give the adhesive balance leads inside the rim some space/freedom. No Mud flaps for my 90.!

Re: 18" wheels on a P400
Tuff Ant the alloy wheel manufacturer in Australia 🇦🇺 have had the rear caliper swap
to enable their 18” alloys to fit, fully tested and signed off by the Australian Design
Regulator (ADR). They spec another set of Land Rover rear calipers (I believe off a
D5) which have the same specs and stopping power as the originals fitted to the
D300/P400 models, but the right shape to enable the 18” to fit. Had the conversion
done on my P400 14 months ago and noticed no difference, even when dragging an
off road caravan.. might be worth pinging Tuff Ant on their LR OEM brake caliper
conversion
