Diff guards
I'm planning a trip to the Pyrenees this summer and I'll be doing a few trails while I'm there. Having watched a few clips on YouTube, I'm thinking it might be wise to fit diff guards to 2015 110.

Any recommendations?

IMO if you are gonna fit diff guards then Wrap around style is the ones.

Wildbear is the 'Spritual' successor of the original QT ones

https://wildbear4x4.com/collections/underbody-protection-defender

There is a few other makes around on the same style

Hi Steve,

I have a Flatdog one on mine, its the wrap around style and after five yrs it's as good as new. Not a bad £ either.

I think the guy selling this stuff is an enthusiast based local to me. I know he is keen to make good gear and is on the local LR group.

Thread revival.

I have a 2007 2.4 TDCI 110, bought set of Diff' Guards from Chris at Ratel X. I messaged Chris and I'm waiting to hear back.

https://www.ratel-x.com/product-page/110-short-nose-diff-guard

Having some time and a relatively dry day I started preparing to fit the Rear one, on a test fit to check the alignment I noticed that I don't have the 2 holes in the diff' casing.

I thought they might just be full of underseal but there is nothing there.

I'm not confident in fitting this without the 2 bolts to hold it on and I also don't fancy drilling and tapping 2 holes in the casing either.

I have had a search but can't find a definitive answer, hoping someone on here will know, is there a bolt on rear diffguard that works with the casing that doesn't have the threaded holes?

Thank you Craig.

What about the heavy duty diff covers from Gwyn Lewis? No need for diff guards is the claim once these are on. Are these better than the bolt on guards?

I dented the from diff cover by running over a boulder hidden in the water while outrunning a flash flood. Thankfully, while the dimple is significant, it didn't seem to affect the gears. Now being a bit OC, I want to change out the diff cover with a new one and bought one already. A friend of mine actually just suggested to mount the guards and be done with it. Then I saw on the Gwyn Lewis website their heavy duty diff covers.

What do you guys think?

Option 1: Bolt diff guard over the dent and forget about it (I will still know though Whistle )
Option 2: Have the diff cover replaced for like then bolt over diff guards
Option 3: Purchase then weld on the Gwyn Lewis heavy duty diff covers and run over stuff with impunity

If it's not hitting the differential or leaking, I'd be inclined not to replace the cover.

Option 1, bolt on diff guard.

Options 2 & 3.
Strip down axle, remove diff and shafts. - possibly remove axle from vehicle for better access.
Grind off damaged cover.
Clean up all sharp edges and remove paint local to cover.
Properly weld on a new cover so it doesn’t leak.
Paint new cover and axle.
Reassemble diff and shafts into axle - refit axle to vehicle if it was removed.
Replace or repair anything else found while doing the above list.

Agree, I have QT’s. They’ve been on ten years now, never any issues with them.
The wildbear ones are basically identical really, they’re all wrap around types.

They have had the odd knock, and they’ve deflected it and haven’t even been damaged they are that strong. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

I too have just purchased the Ratel-X diff guards, and I too don't have the holes for the bolts in the rear diff. The lug seems to be there, so I'm going to tap a thread. Can anyone tell me the depth and size of bolts used?

Thanks
John

Might be a bit late but I had to have a crawl under mine to check some bolt sizes and remembered a post asking.. I've fitted the Wildbear guard a while back and remember cleaning and Re tapping those holes in the diff..
M12.. And the holes are 30mm deep👍

im looking at that photo and wondering if that is attached in the same manner as the wildbear guard..on the wildbear one the nuts holding the diff into the casing have to be removed and the verticle locating plate is then bolted on there as well as the other locations..in that photo I can't make out if that is the case with yours..or does it simply rest on the nuts
