Thread size cooling water Cylinder head


Does anyone know what thread size this is? It only needs to be drilled through and provides an ideal location (the warmest) to measure cooling water temperature coming out of the cylinder head. I guess some Ford-models have a sensor there, but I will not stick to genuine.

Interesting idea... so what’s the plan to use the input from the newly installed water temp sensor ?

Ps Given your question I’m assuming it’s already treaded. So it’s likely be metric, so having a look at the size and trying a couple of bolt sizes should give you the answer.

Yes, it already has a thread, but it doesn't seem to be metric to me. If necessary, i'll cut it to fit my needs. I'm basically interested in the water temperature, the temperature output via the CHT is calculated, which i find a bit suspicious Confused
I already measure oil pressure and oil temperature, but i'm now planning to add a pyrometer (inside a intermediate mounting flange in front of the turbocharger) and the water temperature at the warmest point.
I still have a sports car that includes these measurements from the factory and i feel more comfortable there Very Happy

It's a threaded boss, the only additional work that has to be performed is to drill into the pipe ("open it") and mount an applicable sensor. I am convinced it is a FORD-application for a sensor, no cover etc.

I think it's best to do it on the workbench, one could do it in situ with engine running as well I think....would worry about the chips then.

My fault, I found a picture that shows a cover mounted on that boss.




But still think it should work for a sensor Very Happy

Edit: It is a standard M8 (M8 x 1,25 mm) thread and I wonder if it will show moreless correct temperature even withot connecting it directly to the cooling water.
