Rear step mounting repairs
Has anyone used this kit - KVL500240 to repair the rivnut holes used to secure the rear step in the rear crossmember? Does it have to be welded in does anyone know? Mine have rusted out following some damage received in Morrocco.

Never used, but my guess is that not need to weld, as needed something similar on a friends 90, but then used flanged nuts. No welding.
But just my guess. If you have long skinny fingers, can manipulate the nut plate inside the crossmember. The outer one is just out of view by the exhaust. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Just my thoughts re drill hole to fit ....put in place from inside crossmember and use washers to to cover
the hole in bulkhead and once you bolt in place the bolt will sandwich the fixing tight and will be secure......

When I bought my 110 it had no rear step, just signs of previous step bolts having ripped out.

I bought a rear step from powerfuluk which came with a couple of hexagonal rivnuts.

I hammered those in & compressed & they are rock solid.

I mention it as i think rivnuts are a good option to consider.
