Bolts for back of wood / coal burner
Hello

I have a 10 year old Aga mutifuel stove, it been brilliant. However the collar at the back that attaches to the chimney pipe had snapped off where the bolt goes through...

Obviously owning a landrover this is normal... so I've drilled out and cleaned the fitting.

I've ordered a new collar and wad going to bolt this back with fire cement ad a seal. My bolts I think are std stainless 304?

Now these are fitted behind the fire bricks so don't get super hot...but hot.

Will they be ok?

Picture of what I'm attaching to the stove. The new collar at the back.

I’m no expert but I do know stainless is tempered at silly temperatures.

Not sure if the Chinese do the same as any pressure you put on the head wreaks them.

The manufacturer should be able to tell you what they were tempered at.

I'd have no hesitation in using 304 grade fastenings for your application as it can be used up to 870 celsius although you will see the tensile strength starts to reduce after about 400 celsius. Also bare in mind that between approx 400 and 800 celsius it will not be as corrosion resistant as it is at 20 celsius.

Not sure what temperature your Aga will be at the chimney flue but maybe worth checking with Aga Service. Defender 90XS SW

Yes I would agree with stainless will be fine but I would use some copper grease or anti seize just in case and to aid removal next time.

Standard bolts would probably be fine in that application too. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW
