I'm no expert but I would have thought so.
Definitely needs to be pre-filled though as you suggest. Hopefully someone experienced will be along shortly.. |

Fill the new one to the brim then fit it. No intank pump, so won't push through its self. Or by proper pump tool, but filling before worked for me.

The 2.4 normally needs bleeding, unlike the 2.2. I've got the priming tool sat in my garage at home, but as long as you fill it before fitting, it should be fine. It'll just need a little bit longer to fire than if you bleed it, but it'll get the same end result An engine to TDi for!

do you have to take it off and fill again or does it do it on one fill, assuming air as much as possible is out of the filter. Cheers

Just one fill. I have it all ready and waiting whilst I remove old filter, it makes a mess, but I don't want problems. So get everything nice and clean, prep new filter, get ready for a mess, then a quick filter swap, start engine, and hold it at some revs for a while.

What I find helps is raising the rear of the vehicle, I reverse it up some small ramps so that is nose down, fill up the new filter and change as quickly as possible. No problems so far with that method. I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

I did mine once. Straightforward but real messy. When you remove the old one diesel comes pishing out and I ruined a good jumper ! When I visited the dealer for the front axle case recall I handed them my Paddocks-bought Stanadyne filter and coughed up € 50 for them to do it. Worth every penny

I was changing my diesel filter and I filled the replacement with diesel. I was trying balance the new one with diesel in an upright position before I removed the old one. Unfortunately no matter how I positioned it against the rear wheel it kept tipping over spilling the diesel owing to the bleed screw on the bottom. My daughter, who has Down Syndrome, was watching me. She picked up the empty filter box and handed it to me and pointed to the filter. The message was clear - put the filter in the box and it will stay upright. I did and it worked. Enough said... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
