Headlight Problem. LED, low beam not working on both sides
Morning all,

As per the subject, my LED lights have developed some gremlins. They are a set of LEDs recommended by a French mate. Fitted two years ago and very good to date. But there’s now a small fault, but I’m not sure if it’s the headlight unit or wiring.

The light has three settings. A halo of LED which comes on with the side lights (which are also a LED upgrade). Then a low beam setting (which is the halo plus part of the central light unit) and a high beam setting, (halo, plus complete central light setting).

On side lights everything works fine. Full halo.
On low beam, a fault on the LH unit. RH has halo and central light, LH only has the halo.
On high beam, both work fine with halo and full central light working well.

Of note, I recently changed the clutch and the brake lines, which means I had my fat fists in and around the slaves/reservoirs, therefore boshing the wiring loom from the instrument cluster as it enters the engine bay.

Do we think there is a wiring fault in and around the loom that’s causing the problem, or do we think it’s more likely the unit itself?

A couple of (not very good photos), but you can see the difference between low beam and high beam.

Low Beam, clearly only RH unit working properly.

High beam, both working.

Whip the two lights out and swap them over. If the fault changes sides it's the light unit. If the fault stays put it's the vehicle. If the fault mysteriously goes away (or spreads to both sides) you know it's a proper Land-Rover.

Or take the faulty one out and temporarily replace with an H4 bulb - saves stripping both lamps out.

Fuse 23 is left hand (LHD driver's side) dip beam fuse. Worth a check.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thanks Martin. It does seem to be an electrical problem and I did wonder if there was a separate fuse. It’s so defined (as in there’s no occasional working/not working, flickering, dimming, totally dead etc), just the low beam not working, that I did wonder if there was a separate fuse. Will take a look. Ta. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier
