Hi,
I'm currently undertaking a 3.5 V8 conversion on my '89 90, it's a v-belt engine out of a RRC (not a serpentine engine). I'm hoping to get as close to a true factory setup as possible. I'm really after some pictures from someone with a factory-fitted 3.5 showing the front end accessory drive setup - ideally details of: - The alternator location and bracketry - The power steering pump and bracketry - The oil filter setup - does the on-engine filter mount foul on the steering box for a RHD car? - Location/setup of belt tensioners - Anything else I need to consider around the front of the engine (I'm thinking electric fan setup rather than viscous) Any help would be greatly appreciated, Cheers, Matt. Don't know if this is of any use? 1988 Factory 3.5 CSW
I would add that the fan has been replaced with electric ones, and it does have a snorkel. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Let me know if you need any more? 90 V8 CSW - 1988 |

Yeah they're great cheers, I think I need to get hold of the tensioning bracket for the top mount of the alternator - how does the bottom bolt mount onto the block/head?
Also is the oil filter just mounted in the standard Rover V8 position on the oil pump housing at approx 45 deg angle? Or is there some kind of remote relocation kit? Thanks for your help, Matt. '89 90 CSW with a 3.5 V8 conversion (WIP) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46809.html |

I'm looking for the same setup to fit onto the 3.9 in one of my trucks, it's a long-term project but I'll dig out the links and images from the parts book I have collected.
PM me if it's not done within a week. |

Oil filter - yes, it's the standard rover v8 position - be sure to get a Land Rover filter as the SD1 is too long and can be damaged by the axle in extreme conditions I'll have a look at the alternator fitting - I should know as I changed it last year 90 V8 CSW - 1988 |

Cheers yeah I've now got the engine in the chassis and can see there's actually loads of space between the steering box and the oil pump
Alternator bracket details would still be useful, but I'm thinking of just buying the Def V8 alternator and making brackets/tensioning slots as necessary from some flat bar Matt. '89 90 CSW with a 3.5 V8 conversion (WIP) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46809.html |

Grabbed a couple of shots - the bracket goes into the cylinder head and the block.

Thanks, that bracket looks a bit more complex than just a bit of flat bar, I might need a rethink
Can I be a pain and ask for also a slightly wider shot of the alternator showing the belt tensioner bar and the 3 points the alternator mounts on? Cheers! Matt. '89 90 CSW with a 3.5 V8 conversion (WIP) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46809.html |

Does this help Trickster? This is out of a 1989 factory v8 110 with (obviously!) the alternator removed.

Yes thank you that is very useful, looks like I need to try and source that big 'tray' bracket (which looks like part number 8 on this diagram) and the correct alternator.
Click image to enlarge Anyone happen to have a link or part number for the right alternator? My parts book lists a handful but doesn't really say what the difference is Matt. '89 90 CSW with a 3.5 V8 conversion (WIP) - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46809.html |

I have a genuine fully dressed 3.5 from a 110 buried in the garage, let me know if you need any more piccy's or measurements.

Reminded myself about this - sorry for lack of posts but I did something silly with the links by pasting them into a OneNote but found I have deleted the page I'd put them onto. |
