If the engine is cranking but the camshaft is clearly not moving then there can be little doubt that the timing chain has failed (or possibly the camshaft has sheared).

at least if it is the cam chain they dont bend all the valves and damage the pistons, so hopefully just a chain kit will fix it DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

From this you will see the 2.4 is classed as a non interference engine, so that’s a positive, also it’s believed a seized oil pump can cause the timing chain to snap. See page 2. So sorry to hear you have had this issue at 60k, which seams very early, but there is some solace in it being a non interference engine. |
