Spilt intercoolers are depressingly common but so are split hoses that only manifest when under load. It's just a case of methodically checking every component of the intake system, unfortunately. Darren

I’ve had both hoses off and inspected them and removed the air-con RAs to inspect the intercooler. The noise is definitely at the turbo.

Check the hose below the turbo it can rub on the steering column as they are surprisingly close.
You are talking under half inch close if you are lucky or closer. Check the turbo actuator rod moves freely with it disconnected from the electronic actuator and a little light oil on the pivots. What you have described sounds like a boost leak or overboost, though the latter if the actuator gets stuck on full boost will usually trigger limp mode and a DTC but won’t necessarily trigger the amber light on the dash. Could be the IC instead as LRA mentioned, if you get stuck I’d get advice from a LR specialist as they see these things all the time. Often they’ll take 2 mins to look at it and go, yep we’ve got another one of those and all done. Failing that they’ll know the tricks of the trade and or have equipment to test these things instead. If you have capability to read DTC’s then I’d definitely recommend you do and look the code up. It might just well tell you the culprit, or give you clues possibly instead. Check the gasket between the turbo and exhaust manifold (a common failure) and between the manifold and head (a slightly less common failure).
