Broken ignition barrel
Hi all,
My ignition barrel is starting to fail. It didn’t spring Back very well to the on position after starting the engine. It also sometimes does not make contact and the car won’t start. I’ve taken the dash apart to have a look and the back of the barrel is loose. When I hold it in with my hand the ignition will work, albeit with poor spring back action.
Can this be repaired or should I just pull the plug on a new barrel? I’d rather repair as I really don’t want to change all the locks!!

Thanks in advance 2002 110 td5

It is also a good time to replace your two door locks at the same time as they probably do not work as well as they should do Thumbs Up

So not worth trying to repair. I’ve managed to find a genuine one on eBay for £85 as opposed to circa £130 (bought in error by the seller), so you’re right…not worth trying to repair.
I just wondered if it might have been something simple like a self tapper having dropped out that I wouldn’t be able to see until I removed the barrel. But if they are not with faffing with or unable to be repaired then decision made.

Thanks chaps 2002 110 td5
