Windscreen Blocks Recommendations Please
Hello,

My Windscreen block/hinges are looking a little worse for wear, and despite changing the gaskets last year have started leaking again.

I'm after something to replace them. I've looked at Optimill but there seems to be a issue with them overlapping the windscreen seal from pictures not sure if this is an issue. I also can't see a pic of the undersides of them...I'm interested to know if they are flat or hollowed like the original parts (I think this is part of the reason for gaskets failing all the time). Can anyone who has a set enlighten me?

I've also seen these from offroad monkeys... these hae flat backs and better gaskets than OEM by the looks of it. Anyone running these?

Anything else about? most other aftermarket seem to be replicas of the OEM design

Thanks

I wonder if it would be possible to fit s washer under it. It could be laser cut from the material/thickness you desire. It could be done in two pieces or alternatively fold one side up to allow cutting to suit the water chanel and also allow for fixing a snorkel to etc.

Can fill the cavities of the blocks with epoxy and allow to cure before fitting. That would give a better surface.

Some members of the forum have reported good results by using self made neoprene gaskets.

I have installed a few and used glass sealer, a type of sealer that remains tacky, very similar to the old dum dum. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Filling with resin sounds like a good idea. It would also remove the void which could potentially hold water.

The neoprene also sounds good as I presume something is needed that remains flexible.

When I refinished mine I tried two gaskets. The rubber type distorted, so I used the original type hard cardboard sort.
To avoid leaks I filled all cavities with clear Dinitrol and both faces of the gasket . Bolts and bolt holes liberally sprayed with Dinitrol.

No leaks after 3 years.

I have had Britpart ones fitted for years without any problem. Certain they were solid blocks. https://www.britpart.com/all-parts/da1142b

Thanks all. Has anyone fitted the optimill ones that can confirm if they foul the windscreen seal?
