The rear of our front garden wall has been rendered with sand and cement; which is cracked and has weeds growing out of it.

Starting stripping it off today, with the intention of repointing with a proper lime mix (it’s a Victorian brick and rubble stone affair).

Shortly after getting to the point of no return (about a foot of render removed), I realised the halfwhit that rendered it, must have used the strongest mix known to man.

So it’s gone from a quick weekend job, to an ordeal that has meant I’ve needed to order a concrete grinder to get what’s left of the render off, without damaging the original bricks.

This always seems to happen with my “quick jobs”! Anyone else?!

we used a concrete grinder disc too, for our wash house wall, you should have seen the state of me and my dad afterwards. Pointing i found was great to do, once you get the technique, the best part was finding 5 bricks the same as the house for free in a waste land to repair a few broken bricks. Turned out to be a good job once we had finished it. Got the roof to felt now, which is going to be a laugh  Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
