Do you ever start a job and almost instantly regret it?

The rear of our front garden wall has been rendered with sand and cement; which is cracked and has weeds growing out of it.

Starting stripping it off today, with the intention of repointing with a proper lime mix (it’s a Victorian brick and rubble stone affair).

Shortly after getting to the point of no return (about a foot of render removed), I realised the halfwhit that rendered it, must have used the strongest mix known to man.

So it’s gone from a quick weekend job, to an ordeal that has meant I’ve needed to order a concrete grinder to get what’s left of the render off, without damaging the original bricks.

This always seems to happen with my “quick jobs”! Anyone else?!

we used a concrete grinder disc too, for our wash house wall, you should have seen the state of me and my dad afterwards. Pointing i found was great to do, once you get the technique, the best part was finding 5 bricks the same as the house for free in a waste land to repair a few broken bricks. Thumbs Up Turned out to be a good job once we had finished it. Got the roof to felt now, which is going to be a laugh Shocked Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Years ago, moved into a new house with a split level garden and the 'split' was completely overgrown with something. Set to cutting it all back to discover that the 5ft high retaining wall was constructed of 6" diameter posts driven into the ground, which were completely rotten. The house was an ex-show home and this had clearly been built on the cheap. After a bit of planning, I then spent two long weekends with a group of friends digging it all out and re-constructing it with 100 railway sleepers Shocked Darren
