Tracker network is the best system IMO and most insurance companies will give a discount if fitted 2009 110 XS

Online gap insurance sounds pretty cheap. It won't cover any mods, though, so if you've loaded your car up it's better to get it back.
Tracker should help. Depending on how you use it and where you keep it, you probably don't need a fully monitored one. Remember, though that any tracker will come with a subscription fee - cheapest is around £5 per month. Insurance companies tend to give around £40 per year discount for tracked vehicle in my experience. £5 per month for 5 years is around £300. Less the insurance discount it's more like £100 so marginally cheaper than the gap insurance. You're trading off £100 cheaper for a tracker + you might get your entire vehicle + mods back against full new vehicle purchase price if there's a problem (or it's written off in the process - many are stolen for ram raiding). I'd go with gap insurance myself. You can always add a tracker later. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Gap also pays out if you smash it up, trackers wont, if your car is new and you have gap you dont need a tracker because you get a new car if it is smashed up or stolen, however if its one of the family and a keep forever purchase, best to get both might seem a lot of money but realistically its the price of a few add on's or a set of wheels and tyres DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Thanks for these thoughts - thinking more of Gap at present as while it may be pampered it isn't loaded with extras. Will post again when further forward. Thanks again, Ian One wife - livid

Gap insurance won the day in the end - although I won't completely forget a tracker later. Price was improved on as well - four years cover from date of purchase [1st July this year] to a maximum of £10k - in other words if the main insurers write the vehicle off the difference between their valuation and the original invoice price is covered up to that amount. The price was £175, or 13 @ £13-46 interest free monthly from GapInsurance@EasyGap.co.uk 0800 1954926. They could not have been more helpful, and the price compares with the LR dealer one above of £500 for three years, and another insurer at £220. The main insurers excess is also covered, plus any approved accessories added and listed on the purchase invoice. Can post the policy details if anyone interested. Ian One wife - livid
