From your other post it would appear to be your bulbs over hearing?? Possibly causing both issues.....

From your other post, have you checked that the brake lights aren’t on all the time? If so I would assume a corroded trailer socket causing the issues. Formerly mao99999

No harm disconnecting the socket to diagnose the fault. Going by your other posts I feel you’ve got some earth, alternator or water ingress problems.

If you’re struggling to sort it I’m only down in Stockton on Tees I’ll gladly take a look. Formerly mao99999

I thought the trailer light only flashes with the indicator (and a trailer is connected of course). 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I know that Procta has been having trouble with brake lights recently but I would look at the trailer socket first as they are renowned for corroding. Defender 90XS SW

When I resides my trailer socket after I had some issues with it which was a genuine one.
I fitted another that had LED test lights built in. I think it’s Sparex or something as a brand.
When I put it all back together I filled it with wet silicone and wet assembled and allowed to set once it was all wired and I’ve never had a problem since as it’s effectively sealed up completely.

I guess you could use electrical enclosure gel too but that maybe a bit “runny” and make it a little bit more tricky to do.

I added an additional ground to it as well. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

It flashes once with the indicators even if something isn't connected. I spent a long time thinking I had an electricual fault. Embarassed

well i have unplugged the trailer harness from the cars loom, just to see if that has is the problem, and it has made no difference.
I may change the rear break lights for the new units i have just bought, in case these are causing a problem, I replaced these before. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Trailer light will be related to the indicator circuits unless it’s a common earth fault.
