CHEQUER PLATE REAR QUARTER PANELS INSTALLATION
Hi - attempting to install the Rear Quarter Panel Chequer plate and there is a bolt for a body support that sits on the underneath of the rear body work preventing the Chequer plate from sitting flush.

What did you do to over come this - I have only really noticed whilst going to fix the 2nd one. The fixing hole is obstructed also.

The one I have fitted is now not tight to the underneath as the bolt pushes it out.

Option is to take out the bolt realign chequer plate - drill new hole to where they align to and then refit and then drill a new hole through the Chequer plate and refit the bolt.

Wanted to find out how others may have installed theirs?

Take the bolt out, drill through the chequer plate, refit the old bolt (or a new longer one if it's too short)

Trim the CP around the bolt head with a Dremel grind stone or similar tool to finish off.

Measure twice and cut once.
Also unless you already have I’d recommend bonding the CP on and not affixing it with fixings.

I had a bit of impact once on one from a tree branch and it bent the panel a little but the CP came off clean as it was bonded bonded.
I managed to straighten the panel to as new and you’d never know and re-bond the CP and it’s just as it always was 100% damage free now like new.

If those CP pieces would have been bolted on it would have been an awful mess with ripped Alu panel by the bolts and bent up panel and CP piece.
In other words more damage and not so easy to put right. NEVER SURRENDER! ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Thanks for pointing out the obvious !

It would help if they provided a pre drilled hole for this as well as move the position of the one that interferes with the mud flap bracket.

Thanks I’ll do this and hope that the new alignment is far enough away from the holes I have already made …..

From memory, the OE ones come with a cut-out in the lip that avoids the bolt.

The problem with providing pre-drilled ones is both cost - it's an extra stage in the manufacturing process - and accuracy, given typical build tolerances. Darren

The OE ones have a not small cutout around the bolt area, as they know how the tolerance is Whistle

If me I’d fix through the CP as it’s stronger. Although swapping to Gwyn Lewis rear mud flaps is also an idea worth looking at.
