Hi all, need some help with a rear step.
When I got my 110 it came with the original folding rear step as the NAS step wasn't in stock in time for PDI fitting. The step worked and fitted fine. When the dealer fitted the NAS step a couple of weeks after delivery I forgot to either take the step off first or ask them to leave it in the back after removal which would have been the sensible option. Consequently a few days after having the NAS step fitted I realised they'd kept it / used it but didn't bother asking them about it as if it had been delivered with the NAS I would never have seen the folding step anyway. Moving on to recent events and I've taken the NAS step off to fit the adjustable tow bar from my last Puma. This means I need a new folding rear step for the kids to get in. I went to see the dealer who ordered me a new step and kindly gave me a hefty discount when I explained what happened. When I cam to bolt it on this afternoon I found that the brackets on the step have two lugs on them which stop the bracket sitting flush with the underside of the rear crossmember. It looks as though the step is designed so that the lugs fit into holes / slots in the crossmember which mine doesn't have. Click image to enlarge You can see the lug in the pic above. Click image to enlarge This pic shows how it fits against the crossmember. The part number is STC 7632 which is shown as correct for the current Puma on Landrover's website. Could someone with a genuine folding rear step fitted please check to see if their's looks the same and possible post a photo before I take it back to the dealer on Monday? Just checked, mine is the same.Where you have bolted your step to the crossmember mine has a spacer or a round washer type thing inserted between the step bracket that the bolt goes through and the bottom of the cross member. This "evens" things up and allows the step to sit flush with the bottom of the crossmember. If this is not clear I will get either the wife or one of the troops to put up a photo for you later.(That stuff is beyond me) 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Thanks for that - I did wonder about a spacer but although it came with a couple of 'rivnut' type things there were no spacers and no mention of them in the detailed instructions (yes, just showing two bolts).
Anyone who could take a pic - that would be great John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

This may of may nnot help...
I took-off my folding rear step, and replaced it with one of these: You bolt it behind the towball. Mine's painted black (over zinc finish), and a much better solution imho - only a few quid Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Fitted one of these-the one with two steps, one either side of the towbar on the 88. Good value for money. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |
