Concern with metal shavings when tapping axle breather hole?
Ive ordered up the Gwyn Lewis axle breather kit which requires tapping the stock puma axle breather holes as they are not threaded. I have also picked up the magnetic diff plugs they offer.

My question is- should I be concerned that in the tapping process metal shavings are going to get in the axle housing and cause trouble? I have little experience tapping so want to be sure I get it right and not cause damage.

As above the grease trick works a treat. Nice thick grease no cutting oil required Thumbs Up

If you are at all concerned tap the hole, clean the hole with brake cleaner, let it all settle, drain the axle oil and refill. Belts and braces but it will limit the swarf even further. Thumbs Up

Just out of curiosity - what sort of thickness is the axle casting?
