Correct torque figures ?? Tdi300 R380 GB & LT230 TB
Hi folk

Just changed the oil on my Tdi300 gearboxes ( + Swivel housings & Diffs) and was just about to put the drain plug in for the main R380 geabox but am confronted with two different torque figures.

One document say 30NM with Hylomar and another says 50NM ...

Can anyone solve/tell me the correct figure please.

Also on the LT230 I've used 30NM on both the Drain plug (with Hylomar) and Filler plug.

With the R380 the filler plug is tapered, so tighten and nip a little more to seal, and the drain plug should have a new brass washer. If you are not using sealant (earlier method) then tighten to 50NM (relying on the brass washer to seal) or smear a little sealant on the threads add the washer and tighten to 30NM as you do not need to rely on just the washer.

Most people will just tighten it to "that'll do" but not to "FT"...

As for the LT230, what you did looks good, although the sealant on the filler plug is not really necessary.

Thumbs Up

Thanks Geo

Ran out of light this evening to finish off the filling of my gearbox tonight but I re-fitted the drain plug along with the associated copper washer and some Hylomar on the threads.

All set to torque up the drain plug and found I couldn't get the torque wrench/socket on the nut because its width caused fouling on the prop shaft UJ Censored so BIG ring spanner on, nipped it up tight and then just a tadge more so I guess I'm somewhere between 30nm and 50nm.

... then straight online and ordered a slim/short 32mm socket for the future Thumbs Up

Happy motoring

Excellent Thumbs Up Happy many miles Smile Just pop under there in a few days time to check for weeps. You may need to nip up the plugs. Shouldn't do considering the sealant, but it is worth checking Thumbs Up
