Have a look at your A frame ball joint, it’s connected to the rear axle just above and to the left of the rear diff when viewed from behind..

Also best to get the new Ball joint fitted to a new housing, plus new bolts and nuts ( note get the right size bolts / nuts for your vehicle as they changed) as it’s not that expensive and removing an old and fitting a new ball joint into an existing housing is hard and requires 10 plus ton press. Not a USA site but this link should help identify the item. https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/a-frame...ng-gl1041/ Or https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/product/a-frame...inc-bolts/ If not the A Frame ball joint check all the rear suspension bushes To test your A frame ball joint I read this post on another forum. “the way i check for play in the a-frame is with the vehicle on the ground get someone to rock the wheels at 3 and 9 o'clock as if you are checking wheel - bearing play, this will show play in the a-frame, also with the handbrake applied rock vehicle back and forth while laying under neath and you should see any movement present and this will also show play in the link arms too.” In principle this seems a good way to visually check the movement of the ball joint and A frame bushes. Just make sure you are on a flat surface, the handbrake is working and is applied. Do others test the A frame ball joint and bushes this way ? Has it been successful in showing / identifying A frame issues ? |
