Very nice Defender
But what makes you think the springs are tired? Is it sitting lower than you like it to be? Dampers.. that is possible that need replacement, but sometimes even a set of bushes make a day night difference. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thanks for the complement!
The springs feel soft, we get sway (not worn shock ‘bounce’) and ‘diving’ under braking. The front shocks definitely need replacing, and given that replacing front shocks is such a performance if you’re going to change the springs then that is the time to do it. I’ve not ruled out doing the bushes too. |

Springs have 2 very important parameters:
1. Free length 2. Stiffness Both can degrade over time, although in my opinion stiffness is less likely to be lost unless there is severe rust reducing the diameter of the wire. Both would affect the ride height, and from the picture that does not seem to have happened. For roll, check you still have the front anti roll bar fitted, and its bushes are in good condition. If nose is diving too much under braking, can check brake balance front/rear. Although a 110 is less affected from cg moving forward under braking compared to a 90 thanks to the longer wheelbase. Having said that, new shocks would help in both situations if they are nitrogen filled as the gas pressure acts like another spring. Personally I would change the springs only if they have rusted badly, have really broken, or just want a different ride quality/lift. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Owe, btw, it is always nice to have shiny new parts under a Defender
I have installed a set of britpart springs under the rear of my 90 as wanted to to have a bit of a softer ride. Been there for about 1 to 1.5 years, but also installed an isolator between the spring and its perch. They do seem to have sagged a bit since installing. I do not know if the rubber in the isolator that has perished, or the springs have got a new ‘set’ from being loaded. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

https://gwynlewis4x4.co.uk/ i also recomend gwyn lewis too. He also has a modification to the rear shock top mount so the rear shock is a pin fitting a very good mod. i replaced all my shocks and springs with old man emu kit for about £850 i think but i am very happy with the result,
