Blue Lithium Grease
I am just about to carry out a service on my wifes' horse drawn carriage. Each axle is located on a pair of tapered roller bearings and due to signs of wear on the rollers and cages I have decided to replace them.
Due to the relative low cost of these bearings I decided to purchase them from the carriage manufacturer along with some other parts rather than a bearing supplier and incur further delivery charges.

The carriage manufacturer said I should replace the original white lithium grease with blue lithium grease. Does anyone know why I should use blue in preference to white? Defender 90XS SW

Castrol LM (now LMX) for wheel-bearings for me, it's never let me down, and I'm not bothered about the colour. Very Happy

I can't imagine that high temperatures are a particular problem in horse-drawn wheel-bearings.

Rolling with laughter ^^^ come on, rein it in…

I’m with Blackwolf - Castrol LM(X) - although I am, like Gwyn Lewis, partial to a bit of Morris K48.

I prefer my grease to be grease-coloured Thumbs Up

I would ask the carriage manufacturer. I guess they must have some reason for recommending using blue over white.

Unless they just happen to have a large 25Kg tub of it and can decant a small amount into a tin for you at a premium price !!

Is there a proper seal to prevent water ingress?
I use Silcolene RG2 for such, but it is red if that helps in the confusion. Maybe Ann^^^ is the supplier 😂 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
