Fuelling problem on 2.4
Morning all.

Fuelling problem. Need to know what to look for.

Start up is normal. Can be a big puff of smoke if cold.
During warm up idle, engine hunts. Can get really bad.
Eventually calms down but when heading off and pressing accelerator, unless really over-revving, fuel feeds cuts dramatically, if not stall. Certainly there's seriously lag and hunting. To almost zero. This game goes on until the engine is warm.
Then, if driving at steady revs (2000) on straight road, it's OK. Not super responsive but OK.
On roads with traffic lights and roundabouts, can be normal when warm (certainly when driving) but when pulling away from lights, jncs or roundabouts, can sometimes feel like it's cutting out or almost going into limp mode.

What thoughts?

VCV?
Pump?
Something to do with the accelrator?
Other?

Am in UK. Don't want to get stuck here.

Ta Monsieur Le Grenadier

I'd start with the VCV --
2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear
2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged

With the engine running, disconnect each injector connector one at at a time then reconnect.

Unplugging an injector will obviously cause the engine to run on three cylinders which will be noticeable. If you unplug an injector but do not note any difference in running then that injector is faulty.

Costs nothing and takes two minutes to rule out injectors.

I had running issues with mine for months. Did the Mass Air Flow Sensor and VCV but it turned out to be a faulty injector on cylinder 4 as per https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic53240-217.html > 110 XS Double Cab

Definitely go for the VCV first, put a little light oil like 3 in 1 on your turbo actuator pivots too.

If you have no clutch switch DTCโ€™s it wonโ€™t be that, so maybe as mentioned above.
When was the fuel filter last changed?

If you donโ€™t already use Millers diesel additive, it may help and you can use it permanently anyway like I do. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Yep out 2.4 used to surge forward and a change of the VCV sorted. It was just fitted without any relearning process. Opinion is divided on this but mine was just installed and everything worked fine. A main dealer would probably say that the vehicle needs connecting to their computer for a relearn. They charge for this..... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Same here Spud, VCV straight in and working perfectly.

In response to the OP I just thought of, clean the MAF and MAP that may be worth doing as well. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Thank you all. Yup, VCV. Kindly changed by Chris at CSK in just 20mins. For those whoโ€™ve wondered, no re-learn required. Now drives like a dream. Looking forward to throwing in the new BAS Intercooler and hoses, and getting the remap done Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier
