Help…won’t start….blown F5 30A fuse…cause?
Hi folks…I need your help…

2009 2.4 Puma…engine turning over but won’t start. Noticed the glow plug light didn’t light on dash…
Checked F5 fuse and yes it was blown…tried another and it blew instantly…

Looking at the wiring diagram to diagnose….what’s causing the overload?ECM? Relay?glow plug fault?

Any ideas?

Can't help specifically I'm afraid, but you will find wiring diagrams at https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21ALkd...9C85C7C171

Identify everything that fuse 5 supplies and then begin a process of elimination by removing downstream relays/fuses > 110 XS Double Cab

Thanks Hank...good news! It starts... Thumbs Up

Replaced the 30A fuse for the main relay/ECM...again and tried ignition...the glow plug light came on the instrument cluster briefly but fuse popped again with a little puff of smoke...

Disconnected the battery...pulled the main relay and glow plug relay....gave them a shake and replaced, replaced the fuse again. Reconnected the battery and switched on ignition the glow plug light stayed on and then went off as it should and then tried starting and it did.

Got some new relays on order now and hoping the fault isn't in ECM or glow plugs themselves.

Did a bit more checking this morning and actually looks like the problem was not relays at all. I saw another puff of smoke from the wiring to the glow plug relay. It seems a spot of corrosion where the wire touches the floor was causing a short. Cleaned up and reinsulated...so all good. Probably could do with a bit of sound deadening/insulation to prevent that happening again.

Glad you have found the fault. Hopefully sorted now.
Blowing fuses are a nightmare to diagnose, and have to be traced back until the fault is found. No easy solution, but at least you have found the cause.
I have found a test lamp and a multimeter essential for electrical faults.

Thanks Balvaig...what diagnostic tool have you got? what's best for the puma?

EDIT: sorry I mis-read....I have a multimeter and that was helpful but i was wondering if a diagnostic tool may be useful too
