As in perhaps it’s gelled up partially due to cold?

I’ve never had anything to do with DPF stuff, but it probably needs a good hard run to heat up and burn off. I believe the DPF goes though a regen cycle or something where it needs to get hot so short journeys may bring it on. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

I don’t know as I don’t have a DPF fitted. But that is what I assume that light to indicate, it has an issue or needs to be forced to regen.

If it’s the red DPF light and the engine management light it will need diagnostic tools to check if the dpf is full, or if the dpf pressure sensor is giving a false reading, ether due to sensor , wiring or hose issues. If the dpf is full then a forced static regen can be run from a good diagnostic tool. It forces the engine to run at 3000 revs for circa 20 mins to get the dpf up to circa 600 degrees c, injects fuel into it and that should burn the soot and clear the DPF.
Did you get an amber dpf light before you got the red one ? That’s the sign that you have to take truck on a 30 min constant high speed journey to clear the DPF, if not done it clogs and you get the red light and engine management light. You can check the pipes, see location in diagram https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams/land-r...10_2.2tdci part 21. Some info on DPF’s and pressure sensors. https://www.delphiautoparts.com/gbr/en/res...ure-sensor What diagnostic trouble codes are you getting ? Last edited by Ianh on 21st Feb 2022 11:28pm. I’m
Not sure I noticed an orange light. Maybe I’ll take it for a spin and let things warm up and see what happens:) |

Have you gone into limp mode ? As if in limp mode it won’t get hot enough to do a regen and clear soot.
I would check DTC’s first with an obd2 scanner. If it did not show an amber light but went straight to red, and you have not been doing lots of short journeys without a long higher speed run then I would suspect the sensor, pipes or sensor wiring. The DTCs will help diagnose this. Edited my first post with more info |

It is also important with engines equipped with dpf that the correct oil with low saps is used.
Refer to this thread for a list of compatible oils. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic34176.html 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
