Defender 90 td5 vibration under load
Hi people really struggling to find out the issues I’m having with my 90, running out of things to replace and starting to get very costly after being taken to two so called specialists in my area..
I’m getting to about 35/40 basically under load a vibration kicks in can feel it mainly through the steering wheel can feel it through the whole car, things I’ve replaced clutch and fly wheel, standard springs & shock's, replaced radius arm bushes, new front callipers, as new At tyres, steering damper, track rods, front prop was replaced about 6 months ago

Only decent clue I have is the vibration is basically gone when front prop removed and drove in diff lock but I am told still could a number of things causing this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Don’t forget the anti roll bars. If original the ball joints will be knackered.

Replaced my front ones last year ( I don’t use the rear arb).

My issue occurred when I fitted new dampers, I can only assume that it was a classic case of adding a new part highlighted a weakness down the line.

Worth also checking the Panhard rod. With the engine off look at the movement as someone else rocks the steering wheel. If so it’s cheaper to replace the whole thing than pay a garage to replace the bushes.

Good luck.

Don’t have any anti roll bars on mine, and yes a garage has looked over all the bushes etc found the radius arm bushes were shot but just been replaced and no change!

I would be very tempted to swap the front propshaft, or at least have a very careful look at the condition of the universal joints. Vibration under load is very unlikely to be suspension related, driveline is more likely. As you say the issue went away with the front prop removed then that would seem a likely suspect.

I wouldn't bother with a genuine one. Gwyn Lewis should be able to sort you one out for a reasonable price. 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread
