Excuse my ignorance, but what am I looking at? Like no Defender I've ever seen! James

It really needs a speed and possibly a gear indicator in there. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It seems bizarre to use LEDs shining through templates instead of a more versatile colour dot-matrix display. Very 1980s, but maybe that reduces the ECU tally?

It's part of the Grenadier.
Yes, and in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, too. Given the prototype nature of the curent vehicles, who knows what the significance of the different colours are, or even some of the symbols? Now when they are going for the "retro" style in most other areas, perhaps a set of classic dials for rev, speed, fuel and temp in front of the driver would have been nice? This setup looks more like a Yaris from 20 years ago. 110 SE D200 MY21 Tasman blue

Yeah, seems odd to have all those old school warning lights but the only gauges being digital and not right in front of you. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews

With 29 warning lights, there's no space for a speedo, tachometer or temp gauge.
I don't like the look. |

Context is everything. The speedo and rev counter (amongst other stuff) are shown on the large centre display:

Whilst the retro thing is good (and possibly more DIY maintainable) this smells like planning for evolution to me. I suspect that Gv2 will have a more versatile driver-side display.

Maybe this is just a bad photograph but...
There looks to a number of problems here... Click image to enlarge Too much going on. Small scale icons and close proximity is bad ergonomically. Plastic housing surround looks 'deformed'. Bezel looks glossy. Below screen surround show Icon refection's... to further obscure overall appearance. Icons will work on the traffic light principle green-good amber-watch red-action (+blue hi beam) so this 'riot' of Icons will go away after start up (in the usual manner) with only a few remaining but it does make you think that less is so much more... Thanks Darren, that's much clearer!
Being old school for me is no bad thing. Where is the speedo? *Edit* sorry just seen it... hmm not sure about that! As I mentioned above, bear in mind that it is a prototype vehicle. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Yes, looks like a merge of an old Yaris and a Tesla model 3, still not the design role models/concept that seems to have influenced any other parts of this prototype? Just curious why they did not choose a traditional and clear cluster with dials in front of the driver to achieve the functionality and simplicity that seems to be ruling other parts of the design. Looking to the side on a cluttered display to find basic vehicle information is not optimal in my book. 110 SE D200 MY21 Tasman blue Discovery 3 V8 HSE MY06 Discovery 1 V8 ES MY97 RRC 2-door V8 MY83 |
