Oil Leak from where?? Defender 90 Tdi300 (1994)
Hi folk

I was out and about for a couple of hours this morning, came home, parked up then about an hour later went to the Defender and noticed a small pool of oil on the floor ...

Got underneath and took these shots. Number 3 was where I wiped off some oil:

Can anyone tell me the proper oil pipe titles/purpose and can anyone share there experiencies please.

I think that is your power steering pump, and it’s pipes. Is the fluid dark red?

Your second image shows the drain in the timing belt cover. If that gas oil coming from it then it could be the crank shift oil seal. This I believe is a cam belt and pulls off to replace the seal. Have you had the timing belt replaced?

You have a very tidy looking truck there with not too much oil. Hopefully this will help you identify the leak.

I have several leaks to look into so I will watch this with interest as I am only just beginning on the road of defender self maintenance so have lots to learn!

Morning Mick - Thanks for your comments, going to get underneath again today and do it bit more cleaning then run it to pin the leak down. Maybe it is not the steering hose area as first thought Question

As I replied to Andy above, not red fluid but black: Watch this space Exclamation 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994)

It may be worth trying to clean inside the drain hole too. A rolled up cloth with some brake cleaner on to remove as much oil as you can, then something clean at the end to check how clean it is.

Watching with interest as I have a leak/leaks that I need to identify them. I think one of my is the rear crank - joy!

I find it baffling that you have oil on the steering drag link. That is quite forward (somewhere under the front cross member, just behind the bumper). So could there be a tiny leak in the intercooler... but really guessing. How if the front cross member, is it dry? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

My Defender came back from a Cam belt change today and the oil leak fixed too. A seal has been replaced which led to the oil leak dripping out of the timing belt breather hole ...

Another fault fixed Very Happy
