I think you need to measure your fuel pressure

Another free thing to do - given this vehicle is new to you try and find another Td5 and take it for a drive. It might just be yours is as good as it gets and a remap is in order. Our 110 has never been a racer, it’s 122hp and weighs 2.5 tons or thereabouts.

I thought about that, but my local Land Rover specialist also says it’s sluggish. He suggests it’s the turbo needs changing, but does state they end float etc are fine.

I’d still find another just to satisfy my curiosity. Can’t quite understand why he’s suggesting a new turbo if the most obvious failure point actually appears to be ok.

My standard 110 TD5, while not fast, certainly pulled okay and would achieve over 80mph flat out (where legal)
Not that you'd want to, but it would do it. l've since put a mild remap on the 110 but our 90 TD5 was never remapped and it was fine, again not fast but accelerated well and would sit at the legal limit all day. |

Threw some diesel system cleaner into the tank and took the Landy for a 80mile round trip.
Flat out on the level on the M6 and with my foot flat to the floor it could only manage 65mph. My mate has suggested changing out the fuel pump in the tank, luckily someone has obviously done this before as the rear floor has an access plate cut into it. |

Have you tried replacing the inline fuel filter situated behind the drivers side rear wheel ? Go with a good brand like Mahle or like.

lt sounds to me like the turbo isn't actually doing anything. Try accelerating in fourth gear on a flat road from around 25mph, can you feel a surge at around 30mph when the turbo is supposed to kick in?

I would say the answer to that is no. In 4th gear at that speed I have to drop to 3rd or possible 2nd to make it go.

Have you checked the intercooler and all the turbo hoses, the wastegate hoses and connectors, take the outlet pipe off the turbo and see if the impeller is free to spin.

Just had another thought. There’s a small gauze filter inside the fuel pressure regulator, worth checking this is clear and maybe refurb the FPR while it’s all apart.

Just taken off the turbo intake pipe, engine of stone cold, turbo is free to turn but does not run freely. I am used to massive blowers on ships engines which once spun will continue for ages, this just stops as soon as I stop turning it.

Someone is selling a ‘good’ turbo on the Facebook ‘Everything Land Rover For Sale and Wanted’ group for £60
