Alarm activating when cranking from cold
Hi, Just wondering if anyone is able to offer some advice please.
I have a 2.2 puma that when the engine is started from cold sounds the alarm when the engine is cranking. It is fitted with a dual batttery setup, but both batteries are of different brands. One is a yellow top and the other a cheapy brand. Both batteries have been charged and it has made little difference. It only does this from cold and occasionally when warmed up. Is the batteries being different causing the issue?

Many thanks in advance.

It's usually a sign of a low battery as the BBUS sees it as the battery being disconnected as if the vehicle is being stolen.

Mixing batteries on a split charge system isn't a problem - I've had that sort of setup for about three years without issue - but the specifics of your system could be. That would depend on how your system is wired and designed to operate. Alternatively, it could just be a duff main battery.

As a first stab at it, try disconnecting your split charge system and just run with the main battery to see if the fault persists. If it does, it's more than likely the battery itself or some sort of parasitic drain (alarm, tracker, etc.). If not, then your split charge arrangement needs looking at further. Darren

Last September my 2014 2.2 started doing the same thing the alarm would squeek during the ignition process, I used a CTEK MXS10 to charge it and recondition to keep it alive, then in the first cold snap and snow in January.... It died (obviously at the worst time Rolling Eyes )

Had Tayna Batteries deliver me a new one - VARTA 019 AGM (OEM is a Varta Flooded battery)
No problems since

While the setup is only a single battery, my inital thoughts are that the main starting battery does not have enough cranking power, this is made worse by the cold weather, since this causes the chemical reaction in the battery to slow down, this results in a drop in the cranking ampage (the volage drops due to the high amp draw during the starting) Zaid-M
