TDCI instrument clusters

Help boffins!

I have done a lot of reading on this and can’t get to a definitive answer.

I spend a lot of time between the UK and mainland Europe. Over the years I have had a few TDCIs that I use in both the UK and Europe. I have done imports both ways meaning lights and clusters need to be correct.

In the past I have purchased LHD TDCI defenders with KPH cluster and been simply been able to buy a cheap MPH cluster and swap them over. I then get a local guy to work out the hexadecimal conversation for mileage/kilometres and change it so it’s still correct equivalent.

I have done this for

2010 2.4 KPH to MPH
2012 2.2 KPH to MPH

Note the 2.4 and 2.2 don’t seem to be interchangeable.

I have just got hold of a 2016 final edition 2.2 (150bhp) that I need to do MPH to KPH

I have tried my spare 2012 cluster and I get a the ABS/one of the TC/and the handbrake light staying on.

I got hold of a replacement cluster from fleabay supposedly from a 2015 car …… get exactly the same. Although looking at the condition and KM it shows when powered up I suspect it’s not 2015

I have done some digging on TOPIX and it would seem that the 2015 models have a different part number for the cluster to the 2014.

Yes yes yes I could change the dial card using the Lockwood item but I am trying so hard not to fiddle with the originality of the dash and it would still show miles travelled not KM.

I have ever had to take any of the cars to LR in the past and the clusters have always worked first time out of the box. The only ‘programming’ has been the distance travelled conversion. 10AS always works fine before and after.

Interestingly the both my 2012 and the fleabay dash work in every other way other than the lamps staying illuminated. Revs/speed etc all good. The mileage/kms travelled is there and it shows that stored on the cluster. I have noticed this is always the case and hence the conversion as mentioned above.

Any advice or info appreciated

As the last defenders had dynamic stability control added I’m wondering if the cluster was modified to account for that (is there a light that comes up on the cluster if activated ? mine is an earlier 2.2 so I don’t know ) hence the different part number and potentially incompatibility with the earlier 2.2 models that don’t have it.

Thanks for the prompt reply

I am beginning to think the same. Pins missing from the steering wheel also which ties in with that idea

Lockwood card kit is probably where I am going

Thanks again

I would contact Martin, site admin on here, he will very likely know the exact issue and if it can be addressed with a mod to the km cluster you purchased.
