Missed an oil change...(not Land Rover)
Missing an oil change on this vehicle had big consequences. He said he did not get a handbook which seems strange to me as he bought the vehicle new. Maybe it is all on line now. Seems strange that missing one oil change can have such catastrophic consequences

Skimming the article I suspect that the oil change situation had no bearing on the engine failure, and that it is a straightforward case of the manufacturer using a failure to follow a prescribed service plan as a reason to get out of a warranty payment. Noything new, and really not a story. Very unfortunate if you are the guy with a seized engine though.

Very similar really to the Defenders which failed out of warranty due (probably) to the PCJ issue, which according to JLR was only an issue during the warranty period.

I had an engine change three years out of warranty for the PCJ issue. The vehicle was six years old. Had a good maindealer, now gone pushing my case. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

That is good, but I think your success was the exception rather than the rule. Having said that I think in most cases LR would pay a proportion of the cost.

Yep. I paid a small proportion but Land Rover paid the lion's share. They argued the six year thing but stumped up in the end. Funnily enough the vehicle was not 100% maindealer serviced. I'd done some myself and Land Rover wanted to see the receipts for the oil and filter and what I'd used but it was all good. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
