Seatboxes and door cards
A question for anyone with a facelift TD5 with a door card/door that has electric windows... can you get your finger in between the side of the seat box and the door card?

Might sound like an odd question so I'll explain... my truck is a 2002 110 TD5 hardtop which has been through a rebuild. I have new doors (TD5 style with square corners) and new door cards.

When the doors are closed they push up so close to the seatbox that there is no gap. I had to remove the foam backing when I put the carpet in because that made the edge of the seatbox "too thick" and the doors wouldn't close properly!

I believe I have had correct/quality parts installed based on the part number and price - this is from the rebuild invoice:

BDA110060 NSF LAND ROVER DOOR AASEMBLY £328.29 ex VAT
BDA110070 OSF LAND ROVER DOOR ASSEMBLY £328.29 ex VAT
EJB000720LOY FRONT DOOR CARD TRIM £199.98 ex VAT
EJB000730LOY CASING-FRONT DOOR TRIM £195.70 ex VAT

The doors are not adjusted too tight, any less and they would not close.

As the door card and the seatbox are under tension when driving, it promotes a lot of plasticky squeaking which is irritating - hence the question!

Do other people have the same thing with the gap between seatbox and door, or has something strange happened to my truck?!

Hello. I have a 2003 Defender and the door cards sit snuggly against the seat box matting.

I imagine that it is the same as the TDCi, and on mine the carpet has polished the door card, there is so little room.

Often the door cards have depressions from contact with the seatbox. They also used to contact the dashboard fascia of the Td5, so the dash was factory fitted with adhesive velcro strips to stop the creaking.

Check that you have even gaps (or lack of) driver and passenger side. I know the bolts that bolt the seat box to the tub are M6, but the holes may be a bit larger to accommodate the higher tolerances of the Defender. The seat box bolt holes to sills (3x per side) and to the 2 brackets on the chassis (1x per side), aft of floorboards, are quite generous in size. Perhaps the seat box is slightly shifted to one side. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I'll look at the seat box positioning at the weekend.
