I have not, but have read about it in forums. I now carry spare with me just in case.
I don't understand why it breaks though, does it just snap, or does something hit it to break it? On one of the forums the chap just always puts a bolt into the bottom of the filter and bins the plastic drain. Andy |

I've had it happen too so I always carry a couple of spares. I'm always really careful when tightening them now - just tight enough to stop the diesel and no more.
This is one of those daft, fragile, plastic things that totally immobilises you It needs someone to produce a nice brass replacement Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Do you think it could be a scrote trying to nick your diesel 2.4 90 XS 1968 1/32 scale Britains 109 Pick up. |

No, unless they're doing it while the fuel pump's switched on It's just a badly designed moulding or inferior plastic. Last weekend it failed when I was on Salisbury Plain, miles from tarmac. Bodged it with a seatbelt retaining bolt! |

It's more common over the last year, probably due to the extreme cold we have had making them brittle.
I'm fitting Genuine Part filters now as they come with complete with filter and drainer. Aftermarket ones don't. |

It was actually the piece of chewing gum stuck to my heel that fixed it. (but don't tell anyone!) |

I used a stainless M8 bolt with a rubber washer, works a treat.

Mine broke recently while driving to Scotland from the south. AA fixed it easily with an M8 bolt and the existing rubber washer and its been fine since. Plastic drain plug had split in two. I got the idea its a pretty common problem the AA sees.
