Is it possible to remote start for climate using EV only ?
When I remote start the climate control on my p400e Defender, it starts the petrol engine rather than using the electric engine to heat the car.

Is there any way to just start the electric engine to heat it up remotely ?

Thanks,

Harty

Wouldn’t that just make the poor range even worse?

There’s a thread in the general section about this issue - the pre-conditioning on the EV side will only work when it’s plugged into the main electrical supply - either a home socket/charger or on a public charger.
This was the same on the Mini PHEV I ran for two years and was to save the ev side of things for maximum range from the relatively small battery (7.5kw battery in that case) My new Mini Electric (with a 32.5kw battery) will precondition without being plugged in and has a heat pump to reduce the electrical consumption when pre-conditioning. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Thanks Tim, but my remote app doesn't seem to provide any option to use EV even when plugged in. Do you have a link to the thread (no worries if not).

On your phone in the app, click Remote at the bottom, then on the Climate option at the top there is a downward arrow next to it - click the arrow and it lets you select between Engine or Battery climate.

You don't need to have your charging cable plugged in - just checked.

It's not actually necessary to have the Defender plugged in. It just needs to have a sufficient charge on the battery. 22MY Defender 110 P400e SE w/ Off-Road Pack, Driver Assist Pack, Cold Climate Pack, Comfort & Convenience Pack + ClearSight Rear-View Mirror & 11.4" Infotainment Screen
