Td5 110 SW value? (needs new chassis)
Long story short...

Mot failure due to rotted chassis, new it was coming but didn't see it coming so soon!

Finances at the moment don't stretch to the galvanised route unfortunately...

So how much would it be worth?

I understand that defenders are only worth what someone is willing to pay but can people give me an idea so I can get closer to a decision.

1999 Td5 110 SW, 147k miles, 10+ owners
Decent panels and good interior, sound engine and gearbox but does need a new chassis, bulkhead not great either.

In an ideal world I'd keep it and have it put on a galvanised chassis and bulkhead, always been a dream car for me and loved every second of owning and driving it! But... I can't afford it right now!

So, how much might it be worth as it is?

Whats the rough cost to galvanize? (In a year or so)

What would you do?

l would guess around £6,000 in the current market.

Probably £5,000 to fit a new chassis depending on what else needs doing, if it needs a bulkhead l expect that it will be more.

Good 110 TD5 SW are currently £15,000 so the figures add up if you decide to keep it.

Can you get it patched up for 12 months and then repair it properly next year? lf you sell, you will always regret it.

...or as a different logic, it's perfectly stable and assuming you left it on a charger and started it occasionally won't deteriorate beyond the bits you're repairing anyway, park it for a year whilst you accrue funds, buy a cheap runabout for 18 months, then have it re-chassis'd? Probably the way I'd go. A vehicle you know is worth quite a bit.

New chassis and decent baulk head and + fittings and painting are probably going to run you towards 6k before labour. Thats not even accounting for mission creep. For a spares or repair I don't think I would be happy spending over 5k.

I changed a chassis from a 90 ones. You will as I did, find a lot more that needs replacing.
I came to the conclusion that doing it yourself it takes 3 times as much time and 2 times as much money to do it then that you calculate before or the other way around if you buy a lot of parts instead of refurbishing them.

Restoring it yourself is fun but it is a real job. Roel

That corrosion is scary, l've just ordered some more XCP rust blocker to spray inside my 2006 110's chassis!

lt's already got about five tins in each side.
