So the lcd panel in the speedo shows my mileage. What does the lcd panel in the rev counter show? Mine is black and never lights up.

Also, what does the lcd panel in the middle display?

Stupid questions for a stupid person!!

Maybe not explaining myself or not interpreting the answer right.

So on the speedo, the display lights up and shows mileage. Are you saying that on the rev counter in the same place it is just black plastic and is a blank?

Same for the middle black panel??

Not sure what is behind the rev counter, but the center part is just black plastic.
There are a few, and also discuss in this forum, where they fit an UltraGauge in the center portion. Google UltraGauge Defender Puma. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

From the workshop manual. I think a similar diagram should be in the owner's manual.

I've seen (22) DPF warning, but never (27) low range.
(16) will also show "oil service".
(12) TC looks different with our DSC models IIRC.

Having a 2.2 i have a dpf, but have never seen the dpf regen light , 22 in the diagram, come up. Nor the dpf full light ( thankfully). I’m assuming 22 only comes up if you need a regen, not if a regen is happening.

Never seen a low range one either, I assume you would need a switch on the transfer box or High / low selector lever to illuminate that one and I’ve never seen one in either of those areas.

Yes, the amber DPF light is a request to drive in a way an active regen can be done; threre's no light for passive regens. Had it come on once after a few hours of off-road crawling, preceded by a few hundred km of low speed driving.

As for low range there is a switch to tell the engine ECU about it (idle jack e.g.) and according to the diagrams the switch is connected to the instrument cluster, which then probably sends a CAN signal to the ECM. Maybe they thought the hi-lo gear stick's position is easy enough to tell (which it is IMHO, although I always wonder why I have to push it UP to select LOW range... Razz)

Even if you couldn’t tell the position of the stick, the high revs at low speed would tell you soon enough if you were in low range. Totally agree a low range indicator would seem to be pretty pointless.
