How does the tablet deal with the heat from the vents behind it during winter ?

Should be far enough from vent to not overheat the tablet, so far so good...but I'll get back with a status in January |

So velcro and slotting it into the vents is holding it in or have you screwed through the dash? Ride like you stole it!!

Just slottet into vent and velco it on the front. That's it, no screws. Very stable. Let's see if induced torque will eventually crack the vent, but so far so good.

To address the smart question of lanh about how the tablet will hold the temperature of the vent.
Well, it appears that the tablet is not an issue, BUT adhesive of the scratch on the metal plate yes. Temperature of vent/sun softens the adhesive, and as I only put two narrow stripes of scratch, the weight of the tablet slightly slides the scratch down on the metal plate. My first solution is to increase surface of scratch, so weight/surface ratio will decrease. New larger scratch is 3M, maybe better quality. Let's see if that works better. Click image to enlarge Definitive solution if it does not work as expected: glue scratch to the plate (not the tablet) with epoxy adhesive or put some small screws through the top of the scratch. Good point. I try to avoid stick-on velcro as the glue always seems to become weaker than the velcro itself eventually... Or maybe I just didn't get good quality. 3M maybe better.
In a recent video of Grizzly n Bear Leigh said they had attached a flexible solar panel to the roof using "heavy duty velcro". I wonder what that is exactly or where to get it. |

Good effort.
I went the RAM mount way, absolutely brilliant, very stable, can change between cars, very strong suckers, just quite pricy. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6 1994 Def 90 300tdi |

Perhaps your mounting plate would benefit from a second plate that's spaced off the back by 10-15mm? The same principle as the safari roof on Series Land Rovers. Thank you Darren that might be a solution. But may be the cantilever will be too important. Let's keep your idea in reserve should plan B and plan C not tackle the bug
