Finally for this weekend, I've made some jack pads for the rear legs. I was casting around for some suitable plywood offcuts when I noticed the nice plastic jack pad for my hi-lift jack. A few measurements showed that it could be adapted for the circular feet of the trailer legs by removing part of the lip on each side and so I bought another to make a pair:
Click image to enlarge To remove the surplus material, I turned my pillar drill into a crude milling machine by fitting a 6mm milling bit and positioning the table at the required height. With the middle of each long side removed, they accommodate the circular trailer leg feet whilst the remaining ends still enable them to be used with a hi-lift: Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Another little job completed this evening was a refurb of the hitch lock. This is a substantial aluminium thing that looks like it's been several different colours in its life, with white being the latest. I gave it a clean up and a rub down, and also attacked the seam around the top on a bench grinder to take off the worst of a 'lumpy' weld. It's never going to be pretty but it's better for having lost some sharp edges.
It was then treated to a couple of coats of etch primer and regular primer: Click image to enlarge Followed by a few coats of 'machine yellow' enamel, which will hopefully make it harder to stumble into! Click image to enlarge As it's quite large and featureless, it's slightly awkward to pick up and so I decided that it needed a carry handle. In the picture above you can see the two M6 holes that I drilled and tapped into the top face, to which I added a handle made of 25mm nylon webbing, a couple of stainless bolts and some penny washers: Click image to enlarge The plate for the underside of the lock was covered with neoprene foam, as were some strategic parts of the inside of the lock itself: Click image to enlarge It's ready to go back on the trailer, now. Thanks Stew. It looks quite different now with a bigger tent on top and it'll look even more so when I'm done Darren

Had a bit of trailer time today and fitted stays to the two largest doors to the fridge compartment and the main storage area. The stays themselves are 600mm long galvanised 'cabin' hooks that you might use for a garden gate but they needed some bracketry fabricating to fit them to the trailer.
The fabricated parts consisted of replacement keeps for the hooks as the standard ones were too big to fit the aluminium trailer framing, and backing plates for the pivot plates as they were to be bolted through the doors: Click image to enlarge I lined the backs of each plate with neoprene foam to provide a seal and prevent moisture from getting into the timber cores of the GRP panels. The new parts are fixed with stainless bolts, each separated from the aluminium with nylon washers: Click image to enlarge This is the stay installed on the fridge compartment door. The positioning is determined by the minimum angle that the door needs to be retained at to clear the fridge slide: Click image to enlarge The inside of this particular door had a series of spring clips screwed to it for a variety of tools (mallet, peg puller, leg winder). They're going to live elsewhere though and so they've been removed and the holes de-burred ready for sealing. I did however, re-purpose one of the clips to restrain the stay whilst travelling: Click image to enlarge The other door is essentially the same except for the positioning, which is slightly different as the amount that the door can open is constrained by the adjacent jerry can holder. Picked up an absolute bargain this evening courtesy of eBay - two Defender-sized, almost new General Grabber AT3's for £75! These are destined for a couple of Boost alloys purchased from bluebottle of this parish and will serve duty on the trailer when being towed by my Defender
