I'll start by saying I've no experience of cars that new.
However I'd have thought that if you have the ISO connector behind the dash, then you'll have the wiring to the speaker locations. But mainly I thought I'd say that this is reasonably straightforward to do yourself if you're a wee bit handy, especially with the ISO connector. It should be a case of choose your head unit, plug it in, and connect the speakers. Then of course you're at the beginning of a long dark rabbit hole, where you start to investigate sub woofers and amps and other speaker locations.... or maybe that was just me. I had a basic spec Puma 90 with no radio as standard. All the wiring was present - ISO connectors for the radio and speakers, along with wiring and plugs for the dash mounted speakers and the optional tweeters too.
The standard 4” dash speakers are available for next to nothing. The optional tweeters are exactly the same as the Freelander2 tweeters which can be had off eBay for £20. |

Hi - yes its normal. On lower spec models they came from the factory with what they called "radio preparation" which means all the wiring and aerial are there but no actual stereo.
Its actually quite smart as you can fit all 4 speakers, plus the tweeters and the head unit just by plugging them in. Mine is exactly the same and I found all the connections tucked neatly under the covers. The only issue you might have is that while the rear speaker wiring is there, there is a link missing between the grey plug near the clutch cable and the iso plug so the rear speakers didn't actually make any sound. Paul at LR Connectors made me a simple plug in loom to join them. |

That extra connection sounds like what I am missing, is there an official Land Rover bridge cable, or is only option aftermarket? Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.
5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details |

Great knowledge - thanks everyone.
Will keep looking on eBay for standard speakers and tweeters - if you see any of the 4" please let me know, I'm not having any luck (or am looking in the wrong place). I have a Hard Top so no need for rear speakers! |
