I have seen militarised Pumas around Gaydon. One of the glossy comics had an article on some a year or two back. 2011 110 USW

This quote from Wikipedia, obviously written by a Defender enthusiast
"Feedback on the new DC100 as a true Defender replacement has so far been very negative and Land Rover have hinted at the possibility of continuing production of the classic Defender since the addition of a new engine that meets EU emission regulations, while avoiding new pedestrian safety rules by classifying it as a commercial vehicle." |

Hope the above is genuine.
Seeing as how insurance companies seem to now class the majority of Defenders as commercials I was actually wondering when Land Rover were going to catch up! Us enthusiasts have been saving the 'commercial' was the way to avoid the silly rules for ages!! |

Land Rover seem determined with the status quo on the DC100 , despite the negative feed back . I thought we might see the odd nip and tuck to the nose by now at the Geneva show , but to no avail in typical British Leyland style !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care what it looks like, or whether it is "Landrover enough", or who designed it - if it has the payload, as strong or better drivetrain, the axle travel or more and the towing capacity or more of a Defender I'll buy one tomorrow. Good things come to the wild and free

I have no doubt the DC100 will stand up very well to the Dacia Duster... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Well they all tried but they simply couldn't come up with a replacement for the Defender in the end. The only way to do it would be to make it as it is now with a seperate chassis and versatile bodies for the many uses the Defender has - well your just recreating what you already have in the Defender. If they go down the monococ route then you already have the Discovery. The Defender with it's 30 odd variations simply couldn't be replaced.
The DC100 hasn't been called a Defender thankfully, I suspect it will replace the dated Freelander when the time comes. |

DEFENDER CONCEPT 100
I wonder when/if they will ever drop the concept part. Keeping it would be a tactful move as for me it says it's not a Defender. They may even drop the Defender part altogether but doubt it. |

My gut feeling is that they will eventually drop the Defender name, and the Defender as a vehicle will just be stopped. The dealer I spoke to today even said he didn't like it, and couldn't see why any current Defender customer would buy one. |
