I have a ST wheel on the standard boss and yes the indicator is slightly further away but I no longer notice it. It is not an issue

Hello OwenB and welcome
My 90 came with a Startech Steering Wheel, which is (IMO) still the best alternative, although more than a bit Pric£y ![]() Job No. 1 (for me) was to fit a Quick Release Steering Wheel Boss, I went for Snap Off, but look at Optimill + the Lockable Cap as your at this stage. Now fitted I would never not have this security feature, seconds to use, and as a layer in your overall protection, a good one. Dimensionally I ended up here... all good and very close to the original set up, full Instrument Stalk use and Dial Visibility but with a better feeling Steering Wheel... It also improves the degree of comfort now using a small wheel when seated so close to the door / window, the Power Steering easily copes with the reduced mechanical advantage of fitting a smaller wheel and the whole experience is just improved, each to there own on this Mod' but I would never go back ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Good Luck SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Highly recommend the startech, best wheel IMO. I've got a quick release boss so can't comment on the question. Another big expense but I would put the Optimill quick release boss on your shopping list.

This is brill, thanks very much. Just measured my standard wheel and that 50mm to the stalks. So not so different at all. I wonder if the Optimill QR is deeper than the standard Startech one. |

Thanks very much for this. It’s definitely the only choice for me as I want to keep it looking fairly OE. I am also looking at that Optimill QR, but £££££££ on top of a ££££££ wheel!😂 |
