France 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 Tomb Raider LE Bonatti Grey
Loss of power for no apparent reason
Hoping someone can help. We are at a loss and no one seems to know what the problem is.
Our defender puma keeps losing power and going into an almost limp mode for no apparent reason. It first started happening after our drive down to the south of france from Plymouth. It firstly seemed to happen on gear shift if the revs weren't high enough, which had never been a problem before. No engine warning lights no engine over heating. After some research on this forum site we have replaced the mass flow sensor and temp/pressure sensor and brand new air filter. This doesn't seem to have done anything and now the power loss occurs not just when gear shift but on any deceleration. If you keep the revs up then there doesn't seem to be a problem but as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it goes into loss of power and now not just limp type mode but sometimes shudders to a complete stop. Easily rectified by turning off engine and back on again but not ideal when driving down a motoway! There are still no engine warning lights and no fault codes at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is getting beyond annoying to not be able to drive even 5 minutes down the road without the car shuddering to a halt needing to be turned off and on again.

Classic symptoms of a faulty VCV (Volume Control Valve) on the fuel pump. Not expensive to change, causes all sorts of weird running issues when faulty and doesn't tend to generate DTCs.

I strongly recommend that you change it, even if only to rule it out.

Sounds like a VCV issue.
