Fiting Tree Sliders
Hi all
I have just purchased a set of Safari Equip tree sliders to fit to the sides of our 2012 110 ready for its long overland trips which we are planning to undertake in the next couple of years.

Poppy has XS long side steps and checker plating on the sills - so would need to remove these first .. (I am planning to fit the 56ltr water tank some time in the future as well but not jut yet)

Safari Equip dont send fitting instructions out for the job and I have read a few posts here to see how best this can be undertaken ....

Any advice? tips? things to watch for ??

You’ll see my thread recently about fitting set if you do a search.

I wanted to fit mine without trimming the arches if possible, and evenly spaced front/rear and tight up to the body so they look as factory as possible. I achieved this but it tool a fair bit of work. You could probably just chuck them on, trim the arches without doing any of the following. Or you might be lucky and the tolerances on your car and outriggers work just right and they just fit,

The main alteration, I had to trim the rear most mounting bracket as it hit the body. Without doing that I could never slide the slider far enough rearwards. I don’t believe this weakened the slider significantly as they are so overbuilt.

Buy yourself some longer bulkhead bolts (10.9 grade m12x200), new nuts and some thick and thin spacer washers. This will allow to set the position of the sliders from/rear.

I used four axle stand and some wooden blocks to wedge the sliders in position for marking out and drilling the holes in th outriggerd

I had to lengthen the slotted holes in the rearmost mounting bracket as I could get the slider high enough with them as they were. I also had to buy some longer bolts for here as the ones provided weren’t long enough with 2 of the supplied spacers in place.

I used some foam tape and black RTV between the sliders the the aliminium body to prevent and corrosion in the future.

The wheel arches are screwed onto tapped holes in each end of the slider. If you don’t want to trim the the arches you need some out a spacer on the bolt behind the arch. I happened to have some nylon ones left from a tv wall mount which did the job.

The whole job is easer to do with the wheels of. Remove the front mud flaps too. Mine needed spacing down slightly to back on. If you have Gwyn Lewis mud shields you’ll need to remove those before you start too.

Something still on my to do list: the sliders have a water drain hole at each end, but due to the jacking points it looks like water could get trapped in the middle third. An extra drain hole in the centre would sort this. I filled mine with Dinitrol inside which is probably unecessary due to the galvanising. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It’d be worth trying them up to the car first, as others report less trouble that I had. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Bluest -
many thanks for your in-depth instruction and the the insights to the issues you had...
Bow down

Fitted my sliders today and was pleasantly surprised that everything lined up and the only issues I has was bolt alinement due to my drilling accuracy...
I only needed one spacer on the centre outrigger for each side and had a slight problem loosening the bolt to attach the front end of the slider to the chassis bulkhead bolt, but managed to get there in the end.
I needed no extra parts and managed to have a good fit with no need to trim the wheel arches.
Thumbs Up

That looks very tidy and has inspired me to fit mine that I’ve had knocking around for a couple of years now!

This is what I have:

Typically I have zero instructions and no fitting kit so would anyone happen to know what I might need as I couldn’t find anything when I did a search.

Thanks

They look the same as the ones we have been discussing ... Safari Equip ones - x2 outrigger fittings each with 2 holes and one end hold for the chassis bolt.

You will need to remove your lower sills on both sided and then see how well the sliders line up

One end fits onto the front end body bolt, with the other bits bolting onto the chassis outriggers
- you will need to drill x2 holes into the end of the outriggers - take your time to mark the holes properly

To fit - you will need x2 nuts and bolts per hanger (ie x4 nuts and bolts both sides) and some ‘spacer shims’ to fill the gaps which may be needed depending on the variable tolerance of landrover builds ...

I am not a mechanic and managed to do this from start to finish in one day .. and did not need to trim my wheel arch

lots of great info here to help you .. the best advice I can offer is to get your little wheel jack out to help - it made the job so much easier !

Many thanks for the advice Wyvern!

Don’t suppose you have any idea what size any of the bolts etc are? I’m guessing I can just buy from a hardware shop.

I might even finally be able to use my hi-lift for something! Rolling with laughter
