As Welshsurferdude says above, it may well be the vacuum pump, see these threads on the subject. In the first one there are pics of where the oil has hit the bonnet in similar spots as in your picture.
Having said that they are all on the 2.4 TDCI, and looking at your vehicle list yours is a 2015 2.2 TDCI so I believe the vacuum pump is on the rear not the front of the engine. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic79113...acuum+pump https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64711...acuum+pump https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic51106.html |

That is a 2.2 and the vacuum pump is at the rear right side if the engine.
I would suspect a failed turbo hose post intercooler, before inlet manifold. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Thanks for the possibilities guys. Having waited 6hrs for the recovery truck I had time to browse the forum and had got to the point of thinking it could be the vacuum pump, however from the replies here it would seem my oil is in the wrong place for the 2.2’s vacuum pump…hmmmm
I’ve already replaced the 2 long intercooler hoses with items from BAS, the only hose left would be the short 90deg angle that I understand is a bit of a pig to fit. My favourite independent mechanic is full with work at present so it might be a while before I know what’s the cause. 2015 110 Defender Heritage Utility Station Wagon 2014 B8 Audi RS4 2003 Audi A2 1.4 Tdi |

Would that be Chris at CSK automotive in buntingford ? If not then they may be ale to assist in shorter timescales. looking at your pic I kept thinking the engine bay looks different. Then it dawned on me, in RHD vehicles the heater motor is on the right hand side when looking at the vehicle from the front and yours is on the left. Is yours a left had drive ? |

No, I do all the servicing myself, but when there is real mechanicing to do on any of the cars I always use Intelligent Autos in London Colney (st Albans).
Yes, it’s a left hand drive, I imported new from Austria to Dubai and brought it back with me to the uk in 2019. 2015 110 Defender Heritage Utility Station Wagon 2014 B8 Audi RS4 2003 Audi A2 1.4 Tdi |

I’m hoping not, it didn’t sound terrible/clattery. It’s definitely engine oil though. Click image to enlarge 2015 110 Defender Heritage Utility Station Wagon 2014 B8 Audi RS4 2003 Audi A2 1.4 Tdi |

Hopefully it's not when my engine blew a piston it was pouring oil out the timing case and heavy breathing.
