removing asr2152 air filter housing ruber bush

Hi All,
o.k. im about to replace the stadnard air filter housing with an allisport uprated one.

The original one is plugs into 3 grommets in an "L" shaped mounting bracket. This bracket is attached to the bulkhead via 3 rubber bushes a(sr2152). These bushes have a bolt running through the middle of them and the bracket is mounted via some nuts onto the protruding bolt shank

So the new alisport filter housing also mounts on its own mounting bracket. Youd think this bracket would simply reuse the threaded bushes .. nope, there isn;t enough exposed threaded shank to use existing nuts to mount the new bracket.

So two options

1). They have supplied me with 3 bolts and assorted washers that look the same size as the threaded bit of asr2152., so remove asr2152 and replace with bolts ... these thingsa have been on since 2004 .. how the hell do yo get them off ...

2). Take an angle grinder to the mounting bracket and adjust it till the threaded portion of asr2152 sticks out enough to get two nuts on them

Sort of not inclined to take an angle grinder to 100's of pounds of aluminium

So how do I get the damn things off ?

The rubber bobbin mounts should have a thin hexagonal plate at each end of the rubber section which you should be able to get a spanner on to undo them. They shouldnt be very tight.

From memory the thread is longer on one end of them than the other so you could flip them around if the longer thread is not already protruding. They captive threads should only be a standard M6x1 so you could use either a bolt or a short length of threaded bar to make some new mounts. Assume Alisport want it to be solidly mounted if they supply bolts and washers.

.. and it was soo simple ... course they unscrew !

minor grumble is allisport coould tell you

1). you use the rubber mounting bushes from original air box .... at £40 each not surprised

2) The sensor in the side of the airbox ... you need to have a pair of M5 bolts to mount it on the new allispot one

3). You need to use the clips that hold the MAP sensor onto the box from the original ones Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb

except .... 3 holes on the mounting plate dont line up with threaded holes on bulkhead. You can get 2/3 but not all 3. Why they didnt just make their mounting pillars short enough for the original studs to protrude enough to fit nuts on them

So its 2 bolts and a cable tie ......

... amd theres a small diameter rubber hose that plugs onto a pipe sticking out of the LR air box .... nowhere to go on the AlliSport one Santa - 1977 Series 3 - new chassis, tub, disc brakes,SU Carb
