A few things that come tom my mind.
If you want an unblemished service record, then you'll have to get it done as it is needed according to the schedule. If you do lots of short journeys in that 3000km I would still do it as that is worst type of driving for oil. Oil and a filter is fairly cheap, so is it even worth skipping? What else is due this service? Does it need any of the transmission fluids changing or the coolant? If none of the above are an issue, then my personal view is there is no real technical reason why you couldn't skip a year with such low mileage If you are really concerned you could do an oil sample test which will tell you if the oil is still fit for purpose and doing its job. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Same dilemma myself, under 2500 miles since last mot which was redone today, iess since last service which was in November 20, transmission oils were done same time
Dont want to be throwing money away, but its peace of mind I guess |

I do mine religiously even though I do low mileages.
However logic would say that the service schedule is designed for a worst case senario, so if you know it is used gently, warmed up properly, does longer journeys at low load and dosnt tow big massive trailers, then it would not be unreasonable to expect to be able to extend the annual criteria, and if for instance you pushed it out to say 18 months then your servicing costs would be significantly reduced. My reason for doing it annually despite the low mileage used to be the fact if something did fail that was service related I would kick myself and self servicing is a good chance to spot other emerging issues. Since buying the caravan it works somewhat harder than it used to so I now justify it to myself on that basis. If I was working to a budget, I wouild prefer to use high quality components and oil, as I do now and extend the frequency rather than buy cheap components and oil and stick to the schedule if that makes sense. the lower the mileage the more need for regular oil changes.
i know many cars can do 2yrs with little to no maintenance but that doent mean they are roadworthy or its good for the running gear. it just means that the 3 yr warranty period is as cheap as possible for 1st owner |

Does not the oil lose its viscosity with time and as mentioned short journeys do vehicles no favours.
If i was buying the defender if service schedule was not maintained it may make me think that the person has also neglected other aspects of the vehicle also so may feel its not for me. However, if you keep the vehicle yourself this will not be a problem. |

I don’t just base it on mileage, i will do a yearly one regardless, or every 10k if that is sooner than a year on my td5. My other car is done every before the summer and winter as i run different weights of oil.

I get mine done every other year, I don’t do big milage but I do change the air filter each year and other basic maintenance stuff $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

You can skip the service but I wouldn't skip the engine oil and filter change. Cheers

A low annual mileage and only short runs to my mind makes the oil change even more important. If you do a high mileage and only long runs, your oil is likely to be in much better condition after 12 months than that of a low-use vehicle.

Always been at least once a year for engine and fuel/filters for me since owning a Land Rover, however this has been the lowest mileage I have ever covered over a year, hence understanding the op dilemma.
I will still get the basic engine service done I think and have already ordered the oil, filter kit next, its peace of mind and will feel better |

I change my oil / filter every 3K miles, regardless of time. Good practice IMHO. Also, every year, around the MOT time, I change the diffs and transfer box fluids too. |

OK so I think I'm just gonna change the oil and air/fuel/diesel filter myself rather than taking it in to the shop. Its just a filter and engine oil service.
